A Slice Of Africa

“I had time after time watched the progression across the plain of the Giraffe, in their queer, inimitable, vegetative gracefulness, as if it were not a herd of animals but a family of rare, long-stemmed. speckled gigantic flowers slowly advancing.” Isak Dinesen – Out of Africa.

This painting was inspired by a series of photographs I took on the Ngamo Plains in the southern region of Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. I’ve often returned to similar themes, trying to imagine what the scene would look like if I could take a ‘slice’ out of the landscape.
