Ceramic – Seed Pod Head Sculpture
“In late winter, on the Cliff Path in Hermanus, there is a profusion of grasses. I was inspired to make this large sculpture after closely examining the head of a grass seed. What I have made is not literal but rather my interpretation. It was a technically challenging sculpture to make as it needed support on the inside so has a division going all the way down the centre. It is made in terracotta clay and glazed in a mottled yellow using two glazes layered on top of each other. This results in a wonderful depth in colour along with some interesting variations which really add to the piece.”
