“Look! It’s a bird! It’s a flower! It’s a bird of paradise!”
In the company of humming birds, parrots and chameleons she wanders through the African landscape …. secure in the knowledge that paradise and freedom are within.
Indigenous to South Africa, the Strelitzia is more commonly known as the Bird of Paradise – the beautiful flower resembles a brightly plumed bird in flight. The name Strelitzia came from Queen Charlote of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Her husband was King George III and when this distinctive plant first came to Britain in 1773 it was named after the queen. The Strelitzia has come to symbolize freedom and joy.
