(c) MOPANI BULL – an Original Watercolour

I took the photograph that provided the reference for this painting close to Mopani Camp in the central region of the Kruger National Park. The Mopani area is well known for its large herds of elephants; this young bull was in the company of another young male and a much older, much larger bull. It’s not uncommon to see two or three young males with an old bull – some elephant legends say that these are the old bull’s ‘askaris’ or scouts and they accompany him as he nears the end of his life.
