(acp) AFRICAN BARRED OWLET – A LIMITED EDITION PRINT

R1,950.00

The African Barred Owlet is a small owl, no higher than 21cm, with no real distinction between male and female. They occur in pockets from West and East Africa down to southern Africa but are generally not common. They prefer tall, open woodland with patches of tangled undergrowth, usually along flood plains, watercourses and hill slopes. African Barred Owlets are active mainly at night but are occasionally seen hunting in the early morning or late afternoon. They perch among low branches, intently watching the ground below. They feed predominantly on insects such as beetles, grasshoppers, scorpions and crickets but have been seen hunting small birds, frogs and lizards. African Barred Owlets nest in natural cavities in large trees, usually laying two to three eggs but little is known of their courting and mating habits.
