R3,200.00
The word ‘Gogo’ is a term of endearment and respect used for older women throughout Southern Africa, it is sometimes translated as ‘Grandmother’ but is not necessarily always used in that precise context.
This drawing is taken from a photograph I took of a group of women on the Barotse Flood Plains in western Zambia. As the Zambezi River retreats after the summer floods, large pools are left behind. It was just before sunset and the women were returning to their village after a successful afternoon spent fishing in the pools, their baskets overflowing with catfish and tilapia.
