This drawing is from a photograph I took close to the Kuleka waterhole in the Kruger National Park. It was a very hot day and this young bull elephant emerged from the tree line and walked towards the waterhole, his gait slow and steady and his eyes droopy and relaxed. He walked straight past the vehicle, no more than six or eight metres away, unconcerned about my presence there, his full attention focused on the water and the possibility of a mudbath.
