(c) KAPOK TREE – Botanical Print

R4,200.00

The Kapok Tree (Ceiba Speciosa) is considered to be one of the most beautiful trees in the world. Indigenous to the tropical and sub-tropical forests of South America, Kapok trees were introduced into southern Africa decades ago and they now thrive in suburban gardens across the sub-continent. When in full bloom, this spectacular tree is hard to miss with its clouds of large, cascading flimsy lily-like pink flowers.

The flowers are produced from April to May, providing a burst of colour in the drab autumn landscape and providing a useful source of nectar to numerous birds and insects. In this painting, a male Orange Breasted Sunbird sits amongst the pink blossoms.
