(l) Linocut – Leopard on ‘Sud Africa’ Map

R990.00

Leopards are incredibly adaptable creatures and can survive in a wide range of habitats. In ‘big game’ areas they can compete with other predators and bring down prey items much larger than themselves. Even in the Cape in South Africa, which is a relatively well developed region, with widespread agricultural activity and numerous towns and villages, leopards still live in the mountains and are seen from time to time. It’s exciting to think that within a few kilometres of my studio here in Hermanus, there are still wild leopards.

The image that inspired this Linocut is from a photograph I took of a large male leopard in the Crocodile Bridge region of the Kruger National Park.

Description

This is an original Linocut. To produce the Linocut, an image is first drawn on to paper and then transferred to a sheet of Lino. Using specialized tools and a surgeon’s scalpel, the raised sections of Lino not required are delicately cut away and removed. Lino ink is applied to the Linocut which is then placed face down on to the map and carefully compressed with a roller, transferring the ink to the paper. It is a time consuming process subject to many errors. This is a limited edition Linocut of 100. It is delivered in a tube, ready for framing.
