Susara is a member of the Protea botanical family indigenous to South Africa. Proteas date back 300 million years and are considered one of the oldest flowering plants on earth… they originated on the super-continent Gondwana! They are named after Proteus, son of Poseiden and shape shifter, because the large proteaceae family is so varied.
The Susara Protea will survive the harshest conditions, tolerating both frost or drought, to produce a stunning array of creamy pink flowers that attract sunbirds. The name Susara also has links to female African royalty.
